How do they describe the community of Julian?
Stats relate to town.  Branch serves zipcode—about 4000—has different stats.  Branch and community assessment in zipcode—about 35% latino.  Demographics of local elementary school—about 40% Latino. 

Library just completed a study looking at demographics served by the library within the context of this zipcode region.  Diff. library systems in San Diego Co.—also city library.  One of 33 branches.  Retirement community.  Influx of younger families.  Refresh of children’s collection area happening—about to get a bunch of manipulatives, big puppet area, etc. 

What do they see is the role of the Library in the community?
Serve as a community center—lot of people visit library for programming and never check anything out…others come just to check things out, or for wifi, or get out of weather.  Other roles: providing information, serve as CalFire location for vaccinations and testing, summer meal services…children’s programming with summer lunch program.

How would they describe the children’s collection?
Diverse.  A bit larger than the community demands.  Age groups, subjects.
Community interest in outdoors/nature.

What do they see is the role of the children’s collection in the community?
Serving homeschoolers, literature to local schools, after school programs (schools very nearby—walk kids over)

Any standout features of the children’s collection?
Broadness, appeal to many.  Floating collection, people can request items in other languages, interests from main library or any other branch.   Local collection primarily English and Spanish.

Doesn’t reflect percentages of area demographics.  Reflects circulation and habits.
